Give a Shout-out to Those Adults Who Make a Difference
WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE TO YOU?
The research is clear: The single most important factor for children who develop resilience is at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive parent, caregiver, or other adult.
Let’s celebrate these heroes by sharing our stories.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The Kaua‘i Resilience Project, together with our community partners, is launching the #OneCaringAdult campaign to bring more visibility to the enormous impact that simply listening and being there for a young person can make in their life.
1. Think about who was that #OneCaringAdult who helped you get through a challenging time.
2. Record a short video (60 seconds or less) on your phone describing who that person is and how they made a difference for you. If you don’t like video, take a selfie photo and write the story out.
3. Upload your video/photo+text to Instagram or Facebook and tag that adult, as well as @TheKauaiResilienceProject (IG) or @KauaiResilienceProject (FB) so that we can share your testimonial.
4. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #OneCaringAdult!
We want to build awareness about the vital role that #OneCaringAdult can play for a young person. This potentially lifesaving support can come from parents or from extended or hānai family members and other adults (a teacher, neighbors, mentors, parents of friends, youth leaders, coaches).
If enough of us realize how pivotal a supportive, caring adult can be to our youth, we believe that more of us will take the time to ask, listen and support a young person when they’re going through a hard time.
In additional to social media, we’ll be sharing these stories with our partners in Kaua‘i’s public health, education and nonprofit community, and through our quarterly newsletter.
